Negative stereotypes can be very misleading and erroneous.
• India is home to more than 2,000 different ethnic groups that share the national identity of being “Indian.”
• In the United States, it is not uncommon for a larger city to be home to people from 100 or even 150+ different ethnic backgrounds.
• Malaysia’s three main subcultures are Malay, Ethnic Chinese, and South Asian Indian, although there are numerous other ethnic and indigenous groups in the country. All are Malaysians, but not all are Malays!
In each case above, all citizens are “Indian”, “Malaysian,” and “American,” but very culturally diverse and different.
